ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
Sager Creek Community Church began because God gave Jim Henderson a passion and a vision to see the Bible taught in a practical and integral way right here in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. God allowed Jim the opportunity to pursue that vision as the senior pastor of Sager Creek Community Church for nearly 24 years, until he went home to be with his Savior in February 2022.
In November 1998, a small group of families began meeting weekly to worship and study God’s Word in the children’s worship center at the Baptist Assembly Grounds (now Camp Siloam). After quickly outgrowing this space, they moved to the main worship center while looking for a permanent meeting place as the campgrounds would soon be unavailable as summer camp season approached.
By May 1999, the church had purchased, started renovating, and began meeting in the old movie theatre on Maxwell St. With need for office space, a building across the street was purchased, which is where the church offices are still currently located. From the church’s beginning, Dan Crenshaw served as associate pastor, specifically in the area of worship and music. Since his retirement in 2016, Dan has continued to serve as one of our church leaders as an elder. (For more information about our leadership, see our page about Elders.)
It was not long before the movie theatre no longer accommodated this growing church body. In God’s timing, He provided our next meeting space. We moved to our current location in October 2004, which was the old skating rink located on Cheri Whitlock Drive. As the Lord grew the church's various ministries and increased volunteers, more staff was needed.
Once again in His perfect timing, God brought Kyle Weir to Siloam Springs as a student at John Brown University. Kyle started attending Sager Creek Community Church after searching for a verse-by-verse Bible teaching church. He was hired as youth intern in 2008, then in 2010 came on staff as the church’s first official youth pastor.
After Jim Henderson went home to be with the Lord, the elders spent many months in prayer seeking God’s direction for our church body. In November 2022, Sager Creek Community Church confirmed Kyle Weir as our next senior pastor. Kyle is committed to the verse-by-verse teaching of God's Word in order for God’s truth to change us as we apply Scripture to our lives.
God has continued to grow our church family numerically, and it became evident that our facilities for children and youth were insufficient for these ministries to flourish as needed. The Lord put it on the elders’ hearts to pursue an addition on our current facility specifically designed for the children’s and youth ministries. The new wing was completed (debt free) at the end of 2023, providing much needed ministry space.
We know that it is only by God’s grace and His doing that we are where we are today, and only by a continued reliance upon Him that we will continue to exist and function as a church body.
